Fetching is something I have been trying to teach Gary for months. Gary will run to the object I throw, sit by it, but will not bring it back. Gilbert & I were goofing around with a milk cap ring last night, and every time I threw it, that little kitten brought it back for me to throw it again! How smart!
Gary didn't take to kindly to the praise I was giving Gilbert. I would throw the milk cap ring & Gary would run to it and sit by it. Gilbert would come up and steal it from him to give to me. Gary had the worst look of confusion on his face. It was as if the neurons in his brain just weren't connecting. Poor Gary, he just didn't understand.
Gary has inspired me to keep a journal of his crazy antics. When we adopted Gilbert, I couldn't imagine how much more the dynamics would change. These are my tales, the tales of Gary and his companion Gilbert.

Gilbert, Gilbert, Gilbert
Oh Gilbert was a handful today! He had his nose in everything. He drank my coffee, ate off my plate, and stuck his face in my cereal bowl to snatch cornflakes! He's hungry ALL the time!
Gilbert huffs and puffs like an old man when he doesn't get his way. I am trying to teach Gilbert how to sit before giving him a treat. Gary, of course did it all correctly, on command. I started to give Gary his treat & Gilbert huffed & puffed and pounced forward to steal Gary's snack! I have to hold Gilbert back while Gary was eating. Then I put Gilbert down & he squirmed & squirmed because he wanted a treat. I pushed is bottom down, forcing him to sit. Told him "sit," then I gave him his treat. I hope he catches on soon. Maybe I should look online for a how to train your cat ideas.
I do have to say, Gary looked a little smug that he knew how to sit & receive treats.

Happy to get Gilbert
I am very happy we got this little kitten. Gary has been very active with him. Gary has taught Gilbert to meow, grump when aggravated, and play fight. Gilbert has been the perfect pupil, or dare I say "copy cat." LOL. Gary is very curious what Gilbert is up to - all the time. :)
I do confess I was so worried about Gary adjusting, but I shouldn't have worried so much. Gilbert has become a nice addition to the family. He has taken to my husband with much love & curiosity. Gilbert will run up to Dan, jump on his lap, or crawl up his body to cuddle on his shoulders and purr in his ear. I am extremely pleased by this because of Gary's preference for me.
The only negative to getting Gilbert is that the litter box gets full fast! Oh nelly! I have been scooping every other day, where as when we just had Gary, I had to scoop once a week!
But all in all, I would still scoop the litter box every day to have this new addition in our life. Gilbert has proven his worth. He is a good companion for Gary, Dan & myself.

Gary found his happy place
With the excitement of a new companion, Gary has made some sacrifices. He shares his food, his litter box, his bed on the chair, and our time together.

Gilbert the Kitty
They are becoming best friends.

Gary's New Kitten

We picked him up from the Wyandotte Pound yesterday. He's such a lover & a purring motor box. He's not much to look at, sure is stinky, but sure is a friendly little boy.
He keeps following Gary around like a lost kitten. Ha! There have been a little hissing, but nothing major. Gary "protected" me all night, pacing back & forth on the bed growling at the kitten when he'd try to jump up. I moved to the couch so they would not wake Dan. Gary was perched on the back of the couch the remainder of the night, "keeping a look out."
The kitten just follows him where ever. It's so adorable. We are waiting for Dan's little girls to come over on Saturday to name him. I think I will give him a bath today. Maybe Gary will like him more.

A New Companion
Dan & I have been considering very hard about getting a companion for Gary. I am thinking preferably a kitten because Gary is already such an a nervous & particular cat. I think getting a young one will be beneficial to Gary due to the fact that Gary could "train" him in his odd OCD tendencies. And Gary is so NOT an alpha cat, it would be easier on him if we brought in a new cat that was smaller than him.
We went to the Wyandotte Pound on Saturday with my husbands little girl. She picked out quite a few cuties. I received an email today saying we are approved for adoption! They have 2 kittens available, 2 that the little girl picked out. So I don't think we could go wrong either way.
This is a huge step for me as a pet owner. I am excited & nervous at the same time. Excited at the idea of something new & fun, but also worried how Gary will adjust. Gary is my first & I will remind him that (not that he will understand, OMG what is wrong with me!) Don't worry I will have plenty of pictures. :)

Gary vs. The Laptop
Dan & I have this HUGE project we are designing & printing. I have been on this laptop for 12 hours a day for almost 3 weeks. Gary is getting fed up with all this attention I'm giving the laptop. I went to turn on the laptop today, he jumped right in front of me. I get ready to type the password in and he is nudging my hand away with his nose. I finally sit down at the laptop and he grumps at me then flops down on the couch cushion next to me. I am happy to say we are almost done with the project. But it has gotten me thinking, maybe Gary needs a buddy to keep him company.

Stacy's Little Helper
I'm sick. Very sick. I feel asleep on the couch last night at 6pm. I woke up around 9pm and Gary was sitting on the back of the couch. I went to bed, Gary came with me. He slept on the opposite side. Every time I woke up during the night, Gary was there. I woke up this morning, he followed me to the bathroom. I did my business, he did his business. I sat at the kitchen table sipping my coffee this morning. He sat on the floor by his food nibbling away, drinking his water. Then he sat there all poised & pretty staring at me. He did his little wink that he gives me when he's looking at me. I winked back. Gary winked again and waited until I was done with the coffee. He started following me again & I told him, "Go do your cat stuff, I'm all right." Gary is now looking out the bedroom window, doing his cat thing. I am in the living room typing away on the laptop. Is it possible that this cat knows I'm sick & am not feeling good? How does he know?

What a Lover Today
Gary has been such a lover today. Sitting on my lap, purring in my ear, following me around. He is so adorable. He's been sitting on my work papers while I am designing on the computer. He likes to pick off the paper clips. :)
