Gary has inspired me to keep a journal of his crazy antics. When we adopted Gilbert, I couldn't imagine how much more the dynamics would change. These are my tales, the tales of Gary and his companion Gilbert.

Dan Cataldo's Companion - Gilbert
Dan works in the office, were I typically work on the laptop in the living room. We all know of Gilbert's attraction toward Dan. Dan is his person, his people, his buddy. Well, Gilbert has been driving Dan nuts while he has been working. Gilbert would jump on Dan's lap, jump on the desk, even on the back of the computer chair, with the hopes to gain Dan's affection. Dan would humor him for a few minutes, then yell to me, "Come get Gilbert! I can't work with this fatty on my lap." Poor Gilbert has grown so large, he takes up Dan's entire lap.
So I have been getting Gilbert from the office to set him by me on the couch. Oh this just doesn't do for him. He jumps from the couch and will run right back to Dan. Dan is his buddy, and wants HIS company. lol I find this absolutely adorable, whereas Dan can tolerate it for only so long.
Dan found a great solution. (Which he always seems to do, he's pretty darn good at compromises and making all parties happy) Dan cleaned out the office. No easy fete. We had piles of papers everywhere, boxes and boxes of products, stacked high to the ceiling. Dan cleaned it all. Then he used an old box we weren't using, put it by the office window. I put a towel on top of the box. Now Gilbert has an appropriate perch in the office and boy oh boy is he tickled!
Gilbert now gets to "work" while Dan works. Gilbert has been keeping his eyes on the pesky pigeons that have nested just outside our window. The pigeons have made less noise, Gilbert is content, and Dan gets to work. All parties are happy, even me. I hate hearing those darn pigeons. Dooo Doooo DOOOOO! So this post is for my husband. Yay for Dan!

New Project = Neglected Cats
Dan & I have a new project that will be pretty intense for the next few weeks. The cats are already feeling the neglect.
Gary has been following me around room to room all day. Meowing more than usual and it completely uninterested in the birds outside. He's been walking to each toy that is out on the floor, sitting by it patiently, then will meow at me as if saying, "Come on woman! Take a break and play with me!"
Earlier today I found Gilbert in the fabric box all curled up to one of Dan's dirty socks! He must have dragged it in there to cuddle with it. I knew Gilbert was all about Dan, but this is a little pathetic. Poor guy loves his human (Dan) so much.
I hope they can cope and learn to keep themselves occupied. The last time we had this big of a project I felt so bad for Gary, we adopted Gilbert from the Wyandotte Animal Shelter.

Finding Gary in Surprising Spots
Good Morning. I am sitting here this morning sipping on my coffee reflecting about the weekend. We had my sister, Lisa, over again for the weekend. She is pursuing her life long dream of becoming an actress and has been staying over the nights when she has film shoots in Detroit. With her living in Grand Rapids, Dan and I will not have her drive 4 hours back and forth when she has another scene to film in the butt crack of the morning. We have the space and she is always welcome to fill it. :) With that said, I want to share a story that of course involves my sister Lisa and my "not too bright" Gary.
Over the weekend Lisa has a morning routine which consists of waking up, cracking the window in the bathroom, doing her business, showering, blow drying, you get the picture. Normal stuff to get ready for the day. Gary, I am proud to announce, has figured out that water from the tub faucet is drinkable! Yay for my mentally slow kitty, took him just over a month, but I am proud of him nonetheless.
Gary kept walking in and out of the bathroom as Lisa was getting ready. My husband and I were sitting at the breakfast nook having conversation. Lisa popped her head out of the bathroom, "Hey look! Gary's not afraid of me anymore!" "You've been over enough, he's finally used to you," I replied. I felt another proud moment. Gary is typically so nervous around anyone else other than me. Gary's personality was growing leaps and bounds. Or so I thought.
Gary was still hanging out in the bathroom, while Lisa ran to the bedroom to get dressed. I turned on the tub faucet for him. He meowed in appreciation. Lisa made another round in the bathroom, beautifying herself this time. Again, Gary was in and out of the bathroom watching Lisa get ready.
Lisa leaves for her film shoot somewhere in Ferndale that morning. Dan & I go about our business waking up, jumping on the computers, yada yada. No sooner than I turn on the laptop in the living room then I hear Dan yelling from across the house, "Stacy come here RIGHT NOW!" Uh-oh, I make a made mad dash to where he was, in the bathroom.
I quickly look around, did Lisa leave something behind? Is there a mess to be cleaned up? Nope. "What??" I yelled at Dan. Dan pointed and my eyes followed. Lisa forgot to close the window that she cracked opened! And to our dismay, Gary was sitting on its ledge OUTSIDE of the window just enjoying himself, sitting the the sunshine.
I took a moment to enjoy the view. Gary was happy. He managed to squeeze himself though a 4 inch crack of the window to sit on that ledge. Then realization kicked in, he really wasn't interested in Lisa that morning, this kitty had a plan and was waiting to execute it. He goal was that outside ledge. He didn't like Lisa. He was waiting all morning with Lisa being in and out of the bathroom to get to the ledge.
I briefly felt another moment of pride, Gary is a smart boy after all. Yay! I was standing there goggling at the intelligence of my cat when Dan pulls me out of my happy smugness. "Well, get him out!" Dan demanded. There was worry in his voice. Our 2nd story flat is quite high, even for a cat. Dan slowly raised the window open and I plunged forward to wrap my arms around my very smart boy.
I cooed at him for being so smart. Dan rolled his eyes. "He's a dumb cat." I laughed at him. Gary squirmed in my arms, very upset at us from taking him from his perch. Gary was grumpy for the remainder of the day. Myself, I was on cloud nine. My kitty had some brains.
